Additional Conclusion Post
For a demo of my application, please see the link below.
For a conclusion to my AI project, there are a few things I
would like to reflect on.
The first would be the topic of lessons learned. Thinking
about what I have learned as a result of this project, there are quite a few
things that come to mind. The biggest single thing that over shadows the other
lessons would be the topic of search algorithms. This was something I really
did find fascinating during my AI class lectures. However, until I actually
started to develop an application that could benefit from an AI search
algorithm, I was unable to appreciate how complex, and important those concepts
were. Also, after developing my project, I did find that most search algorithms
work best for a tailored problem. For my project for example, a Monte Carlo
search algorithm would be too complex, simply because that is tailed for huge
data sets, and would be largely inefficient.
For the second topic I would like to reflect on, is the idea
of whether or not another student could use my idea for this application and
implement it on their own. The simple answer is, yes. I believe that the idea
of storing information to make future decisions is something very vague and general,
which is great because it can cover so many different areas of life. I feel
that this project I have chosen holds allot of potential for future students
because it does have a random factor to it, however just with most things, I
mainly holds a loose pattern that which some reasoning can be uncovered. I feel
that if another student were to try to implement my project for their own in
the future, I would suggest to think hard about how they will get their fishing
data set. The second thing I would suggest is to think about using an algorithm
that does not require allot of data. This could include any of Naïve Bayes
Classification algorithms.
The final thing I would like to reflect on is how I feel in
general about the results of my project. I feel that my project was a result of
my passion for fishing as well as for solving problems in an efficient manner.
This is both a benefit and a detriment to my project. I feel the background
information on fishing lures was a key component to the successful implementation
of my project. However, I also feel that due to this passion, some of the more technical
aspects could have received more attention. If I were to do this whole project
again, I would still choose my same project. However, I would revisit choosing success
rate as the key metric for determining a lures performance. I also I wish that
I had the foresight to know how much of a challenge obtaining a consistent data
set was going to be.
In conclusion I am proud of the work I have done on this
project. I feel that just because someone has already tackled a problem, does
not mean that they have chosen the best solution. Everything can be improved upon.
So when it comes to all of the fishing forecast apps and software that is
already on the market, I feel that I still have made some sort of an original
contribution by, what I feel was, an original idea of lure classification in parallel with self-improving data sets.
